Celebrating 50 Years Of Hy-Pro

We will be 50 Years old this April!

Unbelievably we will have now been trading as Hydraulic Projects Ltd for 50 years this April.  We were founded by Dick Hammond back in the early 1960’s and our name officially became Hydraulic Projects Ltd in 1966.

We began operating in the Morgan Giles boat yard in Teignmouth, South Devon.  Later we moved along the coast to Dawlish into a former cafe!  In the 1980’s a purpose built factory was built to house our own machine shop, assembly shop and offices. A second assembly shop, offices and extensions have followed.

Hy-Pro has always designed it’s own products and these have now moved on over the last 50 years from simple inline valves in the 1960s to three complete ranges of sectional control valves.  Gear pumps and actuators, designed for the marine autopilot industry were also introduced and now form a significant part of our business.  We are now designing electronic remote controls for our ranges and adding new control options.

Many of our staff have been with us for over 30 of those 50 years and these highly experienced people are instrumental in training the next generation.

Machinery and technology has moved on in the last 50 years and we have seen manual machines replaced by the very first CNC machines with peg and punch tape control.  We now have the latest, remotely programmed, pallet loading CNC machines.  Invoices were typed out  in the early days and crude counting machines were used for stock control.  Drawings were done in pencil on drawing boards!  A far cry from our current advanced MRP and Solid Modelling CAD programs at Hy-Pro today.

We hope to see some of our customers at the NEC this April where we will be celebrating our birthday at the Fluid Power Show.
