Announcing our new Rudder Position Sensor

Hy-ProDrive are pleased to announce the introduction of our new Rudder Position Sensor.

The unit has been designed and manufactured in-house by our own dedicated team, enabling us to ensure stocks, substantially improve and enhance the design, and offer different types of output.

ML+40F

Our new Rudder Position Sensor is compatible with our ML+ marine linear drives with 200, 250 and 300 mm strokes and our

HS+ marine hydraulic systems with 250 and 300 mm strokes, to follow shortly.

Whilst its predecessor had a “resistive” type of feedback, our new unit is ‘solid state’. This means it has no moving parts connected to the rudder quadrant or linkages, making the Rudder Position Sensor far less susceptible to damage in the steering locker.

The sensor attaches directly to the cylinder and tracks the position of the piston head.

The position is then converted into an analogue 0v to +5v or an optional digital NMEA2000 output and is compatible with many autopilot course computers.

No moving parts offers more consistent results, as there are no parts to wear. This in turn gives the Rudder Position Sensor greater longevity.

To summarise the features and benefits of the new unit are :

  • Solid state (No moving parts) providing better product longevity.
  • Reliable supply chain
  • Various output options including optional NMEA 2000
  • Use with ML+ and HS+ range

We are excited to announce that we anticipate availability of the first production of our new Rudder Position Sensor in March 2024
